  • it is usually open-ended (the end product is Knowledge, not a pre-defined tangible product),
  • the Value of the results are is often difficult to judge,
  • the Stakeholders are not always known upfront identified and
  • planning of time and resources involves balancing an inherent level of uncertainty (risk)
